Proceeding to the Patch Pontoon

Please note that the end of the Pen yr Ergyd spit is now marked with three can buoys which mark a shelf - craft should avoid this area.

Turn to port and approach the 70 metre pontoon situated 200 metres in from the spit. The pontoon, which is lit at night with two fixed red lights at each end, can dry out at low water. It is Jetfloat in type and will flex in rough conditions on a southerly blow, giving an unsteady platform to dock, load, unload or walk on. Also during the highest of high water springs egress from the pontoon legs does not reach dry land.

It should be noted that the pontoon is not provided as a permanent mooring installation. Visitor moorings are available and mariners in need of one are required to contact the mooring master, Mr Paul Oakley, on 01239 613 966 or 0779 928 4206. The visitor moorings are located further along the channel beyond the pontoon. The substantial channel is clearly defined with moored powerboats to port and moored yachts to starboard.,
